i HAVE been looking at the music.big file, the only reason i'm asking now is because i don't understand how to input my own music. where exactly do i have to place my mp3s and how do i get them to be understood as music files by the game

Musics are triggered by multiplayer.scb :(

does that mean it is going to be difficult to get my music in then?

Well, let me put it like this, the easiest way to get your own music in Generals is to download this (http://classic.winamp.com/download/;$sessionid$5BYGA24G5DDSFTN24UYBCZA) program, and run it with Generals

; FILE: Music.ini /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
; This INI file holds all our music tracks
; /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
MusicTrack Track1
Filename = USA_09.mp3
End
MusicTrack Track2
Filename = GLA_09.mp3
End
Thats the beginning of Music.ini. Add (or modify) one of them in the ini.big file, after adding your mp3 to the music.big file. It should work.
