Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars Game Crash

My Command and Conquer 3 game crashes at times during a skirmish game, such as when I build two Tiberium Refineries as GDI or two Scorpion Tanks as Nod. The game shuts down and this message appears:

cnc3game.dat has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any suggestions for fixing this error?

What map were you on?

I've had problems with the pre-order map, but not the rest.

The problem happens on every map. The way to fix it is to go to the Options menu and move the Shader Detail marker to medium. That should get rid of frequent game crashes. I normally would object to doing this since it weakens performance, but it is the only way to get the game working.
