The 'user data leaf' folder, i.e. the one that Generals creates, is always created in 'My Documents'. As you said, on Win9X its always C:\My Documents but on later OSs its on a per-user basis.

The location of that is not held in the Generals registry keys as its not generated by Generals - its a system folder, so Generals' installer simply checks the OS version, grabs the right location, and creates the folder there.

The folder will always be in the users My Documents folder, so unless your installer can detect that location on a per-OS and per-user basis then youre stuck to defaulting to C:\My Documents and hoping that users with Win2K and XP remember to change that to their own unique folder - which as I said, is probably just as, if not more, confusing than just unzipping it there.
