I use GrandCannons, but for the rest I don't use the things either. Maybe you can make Ivans better by giving 'em a range, better armor and... bombs you can detonate. In Eagle Red (once played it) the AI built a Ivan and it threw bombs on every enemy unit passing by. It killed over 30 units before the other AI finally knew what was happenin'. lol.
