Or... You could have 6 legs. That way you have at least 3 legs on the ground at any given time, and what's more balanced than a tripod? Also, it may take while (a really LOOOOOONG while), but we may have legged transports at the very least in the future. Extensive robotics testing has proven that when it comes to traversing rough terrain, legs are the way to go. We may not have bipeds or quadropeds, but we may have hexapods as transports or light gun platforms, but a legged design is just a bit unsuited for combat. The legs would have to be the most armored part of the machine, and therefore usually the heaviest, which would improve balance slightly but would make it harder for the mech to move. But, this is the power of the human imagination at work, so in the meantime, I thin kthe idea of giant killer robots is just kick-ass! Viva Battletech!
