1. Boning is the act of adding specific objects to your models. For example, you need the WEAPONA01 bone to tell the game where the projectile is to be spawned. Bones can be any object, though they should be exported without geometry (w3d tab in gmax) to ensure that they are invisible and don't take up resources.
2. If you mean to import original models, you need a w3d importer for gmax. Using the original skins can be a bit hard because the skins are adapted for UVW use. UVW unwrapping means telling the skin where to go, so a particular skin will only work for one and the same model. If you have photoshop, however (or any other similar program) you can cut out sections of the original skins and apply them to your own ones. The original skins are placed in the Textures.big
3. Damaged skins can be done easily with photoshop, there are billions of tutorials out there..
