3dsMax has a *.w3d exporter available, but that is for shockwave3D.
So, although both Generals and shockwave3D have the same extension type, it is NOT the same file format. (I tried it).

So i come back to my other post :
Use Gmax instead. It is more then capable for modelling and the RENX tool pack include a Generals *.w3d exporter...
The only area Gmax falls a bit short is the material editor, as it can't use procedural materials but only bitmaps...

If you stick with 3dsmax anyway, the best route would be to export the objects with their animations as *.3ds and import that into Gmax. Then use RENX to export it to the game format....
