It will also do this if there is an indirect rules mistake, such as assigning a unit a weapon that does not exist (or assigning that weapon a warhead/projectile/particlesys that does not exist, or assigning that particlesys a particle that does not exist, or whatever).

Once, the game kept crashing on me (full Internal Error) when I destroyed a certain building. I kept looking for bugs with the building, when in fact it was beacuse the attacking units' ElitePrimary= did not, in fact, point to a real weapon entry, and the unit was being promoted to elite when it destroyed the building.
