Default Problem with W3D in .BIG files. New unit can't find its mesh

Hi

I'm working on a new unit and, strangely, the units is invisible, all the effects (dust, waves, etc...) are concentrated on the center of the unit.

It seems that the W3D mesh of the unit can't be found. INI modifications works well, but nothing on screen.

At first, I used INI modified files extracted on a Data/ini directory (faster modification and I included directly W3D and DDS files (mesh & textures) in W3D.big & textures.big. After lots of problems, I had it working (Suddenly, after changing the name of the W3d both in the big and in the INIs files into another name).

After that, I tried to make my own .BIG file to overlap the config of others generals installs than mine. Il included in the BIG files the config files, the W3D and the DDS. The unit was active but nothing visible.....

Furious, I reexpended everithing like juste before (INI in a directory and W3d & DDS in original .BIG files), and It don't work !!!!

Any ideas ? the name can be the one i want, right ? Is it case-sensitive ? I tried to point to the HUMMER mesh instead, in the same "directory" inside the BIG file, ant this one works, not mine....

Thanks a lot !

Romlel

Joinded : the files I included in my BIG file.

Can we put the W3D and DDS in a directory as the INIs without putting them in a BIG file ?

Would be useful for tests & design.

\Art\W3D is the place to put them (if you look at W3D.big it shows you there)
well in your BIG have you got all the right directories, like putting the model as \Art\W3D\MyModel.w3d and the custom INI's as \data\ini\whatever.ini I think it is case-sensitive or at least I've always assumed so and I haven't had too many troubles getting models in so far

(i'm lelongro wich changed its login)

It's what i've done... It worked before but not now.... Even with correct case. Don't seem to be the problem. Will check everything this evening.

Can we create ou own .BIG wich content will take priority on others files whith same name ?

Perhaps an old model full of bugs have the priority on the new one.

thanks anyway

If you have a big like this:
data\ini\object\FactionUnit's.ini
data\ini\CommandSet.ini
Art\W3D\bobthecamel.W3D
and put it into the my documents\generals bit then running generals normally there will be no change but using "generals.exe -mod mybig.big" will mean that everything in mybig.big (which is in the my documents bit) will get preference over anything in the original directory, this way mods don't overwrite each other (or worse teh game files :tard: ) generally this way is safer because you know what modified files are running and your original directory stays in it's just installed condition

okay, your problem is that you are not export the file under that name. it was exported under the name avtest.w3d

rename it to that and it will work. or reexport it under a new name. remember that w3d file names cannot be longer the 15 characters if you want it to work ingame

Ok

In fact, The file I posted was an old version... I had checked the names later, and discover that the problem was still here....

I found the problem... it's because of a node used for smoke when damaged, called "SMOKE01" (02,03,04,...) in RenX that should be called "Smoke01" and so on. Others bones don't seem case sensitive, or eventually creates small bugs when incorrect, but this type of node seems case sensitive and make the whole mesh corruped if incorrect.

So, just by renaming the node correctly, the mesh came back.

I go on and post it when finished.

Thanks for all your help. My custom BIG file works at well.
