Default Unit weapon idea: ghost vehicle or tank projector

I was thinking of possible weapons that i could add to the back of the vehicle i'm making, and I thought about the mirage tank in red alert 2 (i think ). Then I thought what if one unit could project fake images of other units. The opposition would see a large number of enemy units, but only one would exist. Would this be possible????

I don't know as I'm a :tard: .

I think that if it's possible it would be really cool to do as it would add loads of tactical options. Fake attacks could be made or distraction eg large groups of fake units could gather near the front of the base and pull defenders towards that area. while the reall attackers could charge the flanks and enter the base without too much resistance.

What do ya think is it possible and is it good?

they had projector tanks in emperor: battle for dune (by westwood) and they were overpowered. u could clone tanks and the copies actually did damage. they died after one hit and therefore werent too strong but if u got 10 of these tanks and one seige weapon, u could easily make 50 seige weapons and charge them in. with long range clones u could kill an army using nothing but fakes, and it was really unfair. i dont know how u could do it, but it is possible to make tank clones. only problem is getting rid of their damaging ability so u cant really use them.

The weapon could spawn a vehicles with an edited deathtype, so instead of blwing up it 'melts' when it attacks. So teh phantom vehicle would disapear upon firing.

Look at the Bombtruck's spy abilities.

they shoot on everything

and what if they use them you cant see them

How would I make it melt, and would there be away to choose from a fairly large selection which unit would be spawned.

You should use instead a light flash or other deathtype that will be the same for all simulated units. If destroyed, the false tank would disapear like an hologram.

Making a melting animation for each unit would be really too long I think, and if you give the ability to copy all unit and no just a few, you can use the GLA bomb truck code.

just make it so the unit can have a drone, or multiple drones. and make the drones just be tanks that move on the ground.

make the spawn point of the drone a tanks length away from the unit.
Make the death animation it just flickering out. make the weapon cause no damage and make no sound when fired.

Great idea, but some moving-around tanks will be easily identified as ghost wehicules by a human.

Can you prevent false tanks from moving around and just stay in formation with the projector unit ?

I assume if you do the drone thing, they will move with the tank if you give it the proper setup, just play around with it, then come back for help.
