Default Skinning help

How do I make good original skins. Not cut and paste. I'm really getting annoyed with my inability to do this. What tools should I be using? I use PSP7, and I know how to unwrap and everything

Thanks

It needs more detail. You need to add more definition between the plates of metal on the tank. It looks like one big chunk of metal. Its needs to look like individual plates of metal.

ok, thanks. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble with this. I'm really good at drawing in real life

ok....here's a newer version. I used the skin of WeeRaby's bone crusher as a model, hope it doesn't matter cuz this isn't going public.

Anyway, I've added some plates to the skin, but now the problem is getting it to look worn on, not fresh outta the war factory How would I do that? I usually use the paintbrush tool with a low density and hardness, but there are better ways, right?

I am not sure I never really had a chance to skin myself. Althoguh I do have experience in photo shop. I still need to learn more about skinning. It looks alot better though.

glad its improving. Here's a different model, with a different skin. It still doesn't look good. It needs to look real, but it just looks like it was PSPed on.

I dont know if youre using it already, but I find that using the opacity tool for the brush along with a dark(er) colour makes the plates "blend" into the skin better... dunno if that helps though....
