Default Turret

How do i make a turret turn?
and when i look in W3D i cant find any bones, what do i do with these?

Dunno about the W3D bit, but check the Crusader for turret settings. Also the Comanche for a different, fixed-forward turret.

The game engine handles how a turret "turns". When you build a model in RenX (gmax gamepack) you define and link the pieces of the vehicle together. There is a CHASSIS and TURRET and BARREL01 etc. The game engine looks at the names of these objects within your model as dictated by their INI file entries and knows what to do with them. The names above are used for the avleopard W3D or USA "Crusader" tank.

If you have your model pieces defined correctly, then the game engine will twist the object defined as TURRET on the Z axis of the model.

bones...

if you want to see bones in W3Dview, you cant . however, if u have the W3D importer addon for gmax/renx, then u can (obviously) import the w3d into gmax format. in gmax format, u will notice little spheres that u dont see in the w3dview. those are your special bones. they have speical names, and are used as the invisible starting points of things like lighting, dust trails, smoke, etc

if u want ur turret to turn, just call the mesh Turret and make sure it is defined in the appropriate object INI.

ok so i got him shooting from the Barrle but he aint turning the turret? can the two objects cut eachother?
im not sure whats wrong, does it need a bone?

The turret is turning, but not the way i want.. its turning with the barrel as axis, and theres a recoil that sends the barrel upwards.. help pleeease?

This is a typical problem related to incorrect orientation of the pivot point and has been talked about several time on this forum.

sorry about that, but couldnt you make those posts sticky or something searching through ever post with "w3d importer" in it took ages.
i've got the turret turning, and i've started to understand bones now, i think , i just cant figure out this recoilbone...
and yes it was the pivotpoint...
