Default Need help on finding a program to skin

Ok, first let me say I have ChilliSkinner, OK?? Now I got the textporter plugin to do convert the image to bmp but whenever I start gmax or renX I get a Failed to initialize error message.

So I was wondering for the people that have gmax and renx(NOT 3DS USERS) if they could tell me what they use to finish the skinning process.

In top down view:

Hit "Shift + G" to remove the grids or use the menu. ( Or leave it on if you want. )

Switch the toggle Max/Min to Max, hit Zoom Extends and hit "print screen".

Open paint program + a new document and hit "Ctrl + V".

Ok I have a couple more questions. 1. when I press the print screen button I get all of whats on the screen. So do I cut all that stuff off then resize it in paint shop? Then when I resize it what do I resize it to?

2. After Im done painting the skin how do I put it in renx so I can apply it to the model?

Make sure its 128 - 256 - 512 - 1024 in size, square. ( Chilli skinner will usually make the space almost a perfect polygon, but you need it square so move some around till you've got a tight square area. ) 512 is as big as I would go personally, though I havent got a skinned model into Generals yet as I lost my project with a harddrive failure . But the details looked good in RenX and the W3d Viewer at 512 x 512.

Then save it as BMP, JPG, or TGA ( all bitmap types ), and use the material editor to apply the skin to the model.

Save a copy as DDS with the DDS Plugin to make a professional job of it before Distribution or inclusion of a mod.

Thanks. But Im not skinning for a generals mod. Its for a RA2 mod. See I make my units in gmax then convert them to shp or vxl. But they look like crap in one colour. And to paint each frame in psp takes alot of time that I dont have. Same with vxls. Plus making vehicles and infantry in gmax is alot easier for me.

So making a skin is was easier. whew.

Well for vxls I use flybys script. And for shps I take screenshots directly out of gmax. I can show you something I have done If youd like. This isnt a 3d model I made. It was made by someone else But I wanted to make a shp out of it so go here to see it http://www.deezire.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=4043 You have to scroll down. Its a little jumpy but thats cause I screwed up on cropping the photo.

I wasn't aware you could get images out of Gmax in any form apart from screen captures.

How does this script transfer the image data out of GMax ?
