Tips for modders...(regarding sites)
Here are some tips for things that have really been annoying me for a while about mods.
-Have a good site, I cannot stress this enough...a good site usually gets more people to follow your mod. And by "good site" I don't mean "super l33t uber kickass graphics", I just mean one with a screenshots/info section...and is updated often.
-Update often, for gods sake...update the site often. Not only will it make you feel guilty about not working on the mod lately(which usually is the case, and then you'll end up doing work on it), but it'll show people that you arn't dead. Also, DON'T EVER post "I just wanted to let you know, we arn't dead...". Never never never do that. All that tells people is that a) you havn't gotten anything done for a while and b) you ARE dead.
-Screenshots, pick them wisely. Show off your things, and if applicable crop the shots off (if you arn't showing off the command bar, take it off the pic to decrease size). Screenshots should be a work of art, they are all people see of your mod for a while...so they better be damn good. You have no excuse not to have any screenshots up on your site, hell...you should have a dozen shots before you even get a site. A mod w/o screenshots is a mod that doesn't want to be promoted in the media.
Thats all I have right now, but it is appalling just how many mod sites have horrible sites(as in content not as in site graphics). There are billions of guys out there that know webby stuff....so ffs hire a webmaster!
Actually this piss's me off enough, that I will post 2 names here.
World Crisis, you have some very cool stuff in your mod. Why the fuck don't you show it off? I know you say you have a screenshots section coming up soon...but why havn't you had one in the past few months(longer than that problably)
Fallout, no media anymore? I know you've had site people problems...but damn. Also, your "menu" should be moved up...more people care about the menu than poll's.
Bleh, I don't wan't you guys bitching at me for this either...those are just 2 examples of the mods that do this many others do the same thing. Lets take those 2 for example though, 2 quality mods that have been in the works for a while...yet people can easily write them off as dead. An empty site presents the image of a dead mod.

Another option is, off course, to keep your mod secret untill release and then show it to the world in one big show.
Something I'm doing with two projects

On the whole I agree with what you have said Smurf.
Although, I think the personal attacks against World Crisis and CNC: Fallout could have been left out of your post tho. I'm just glad my site wasn't listed....
I want to have a b!tch also tho, I find it really hard to contact some people in relation to their mods... I don't want to have to sign up to the forums just to send you an email, for gods sake make yourself easily contactable...

while that is a viable option...if you want it to be popular right off the bat, it won't happen...it would then take time to build up

I dont' really think of them as "attacks" on WC and Fallout...but more of a "shame on you" scolding. I mean look at it this way, if some newbie asked you to give them some urls of the top mods in production right now...1/2 of those wouldn't have much to show. Which is wrong.
btw oldfaq, thats hot

If anyone here if from the UK then grab hold of PCFormat this month (and last months if you can get it) - it mirrors exactly what Smurf is saying.
If I can get permission, I will put the whole series up here, its brilliant.

yep, my modsite looks good and is good, but can't begin to update it again until Assassin moves it back to the source. And he is taking his sweet time on that.
