No prob Smurf, its cake. The reason they dropped it from Generals (I put it on a map they dropped that Ill ship with Redemption) was because it was a large particle system and it lagged the game on maps above a certain size.

They liked the effect though, so its back in ZH and its slighty better. The principle is identical - they hardcoded the effect instead and its all controlled through the Weather.INI file. One line in that file specifies the texture to use for the snowflakes, if you want rain instead of snow you change the texture to the raindrop one in your map.ini file

Oh yeah, without wanting to spoil anything they put the avalanche back in one mission too but they made one huge model for it instead a bit like the Tsing Ma bridge effect (if you look carefully through Generals audio files a lot of the avalanche related audio is in there they didnt clean up too wel).

The Armor Upgrade works in Generals anyways, they just never used it. Like I said before, the game design process meant that at some point around November they had the complete game, from then on they just dropped stuff that they knew would not be finished in time for release or wasnt working as they wanted - most of those things were re-done for ZH as that was started at about the same time.

If anyone wants a good snow or rain effect for Generals I can put a tut up from the original idea that works about as well as ZH.
I'm gona make this a new post to talk about the weather, and what we could do with it (the ZH version). The things I'd like to know are...just what exactly could we do with the weather? I mean, can we ground airplanes when it is snowing? How about hindering them severely from flying? There has to be some cool stuff we could do with it...

hey,
once I get Zero hour I will hope to look into it more, I think that maybe every so often in a map like smurf suggests there could be a stom " Dirt, Snow, Rani" and all aircraft that are in teh air automatically shut down from this? and hteres a ton of thinsg that we could do with the weather

heavy rain and lightning together in a city map is freaking amazing. I'm currently making a 2 vs 4 map and it's not lagging at all with all the rain. Look really great.a Sand storm or ash snow would certainly rock in game, someone need to do it
