As far as I can tell the effect only works on directx 9 enabled hardware which means a Radeon 9500 or higher and a geforce fx 5600 or higher (to a lesser degree). This means that the effect utilizes pixel and vertex shaders 2.0 which older cards cannot do. If it's a directx 8 feature then the code is either buggy or doesn't work right on nvidia hardware. You can turn the effect off in the custom graphical detail options under heat effects.

In that case the code must be buggy. Everyone that has problems running it should post what graphics cards/system configurations they have.

Awh, mine doesn't look cool. -_- I need a new GFX card.

Iam using a 2ghz Celeron and 512 mb of ram, with one of those low grade intel integrated gfx cards.

The mother board doesn't have an AGP slot either.

Also, FX 5200 has DirectX 9 support.

Yeah, it works fine on my Ti-4200 64mb card. There must be some bugs or something.

Default Be sure "heat effects" are enabled in your video o

To whomever couldn't get the heat effects on the microwave tank to work, be sure "heat effects" is checked in your custom video options, or if your video settings are set to high. I had a problem that my video options were set to custom but the heat effects were turned off every time I quit the game. I set my video detail to high (instead of custom) and now they're always on. BTW, I have a GeForce4 Ti4600.

The heat effects are cool, but too many of them at once can put a big drain on your computer. I made a mod using the heat effects it rocks.
