To me the whole idea of a two-legged battle much is stupid, I mean, what would happen about stability, what about if it hit an incline/decline. The only type of mech that would ever be condidered would be a four-legged much with a low center of gravity, I don't see any justification in any army in the world to switch from a traditional treaded configuration.
oh yeah, it looks dooze, keep it up

Not only that Henford.
But the main idea is NOT to get your unit get hit and if the mech is standing its a hell of a lot easier to hit it.
All new tanks under devlopment are really really close to the ground.
They have a lower profile, harder to hit, and are really stable vs explosions this way.
Mechs on the other hand are only usefull in rocky terrain but they would need an immensive computer to control the stability of the thing on that terrain.

and god forbid if a leg is knocked out, the thing would fall like a stack of cards and be completely destroyed, people from a variety of points could just blast away with RPG's at it, not to mention the huge radar profile the thing would have, in reality, its pretty stupid.

The next tank movement is probablt hovering, but that'll take a long time. I never liked mechs, just because they don't make sense.

lol yes, I have to agree with most of you people...mechs are a very very unrealistic weapon of war..waaaaay too high of a profile, easily killed mobility, etc...
but, they are sexy, so...just ignore the realism and blow the shit out of things with giant robots

if a bipedal system is sooooooooooo bad for fighting, howcome human kind is still at it? its because we are varied in the tasks we can perform, highly agile, and can go fast when we need to, much like a bipedal mech can, if you give it the right stuff. Can you imagine how the iraqis would feel if they were 'liberated' by 20ft tall mechs with huge cannons and missiles? do you think they would offer much resistance? hell if you wanted too, you could make a bipedal mech move faster than a plane, able to do more destruction, and be able to take some serious fire and still stand. thats because they are a good platform to base things on. if they meet an incline, just rotate the feet! just like you do when you walk up a hill. If you need to fire a huge weapon with major recoil, go down on one knee, just like you would if you were to fire a rocket launcher. 4 legs is not such a good idea, as they are slower, more complex to keep balanced when moving, but they can carry a lot more stuff. but i have to agree with you that tracks is still the best way to go.

Completely flawed reasoning!
No biped can run faster then a 4 legged animal. Humans can't out run a horse, not to mention a cheetah....
And......it is way more difficult to keep your balance on 2 legs then on 4.
Just try to keep a chair in balance on 2 legs…

But a chair is not designed for 2 legs. You can't balance it because it would have 1 extra area sticking out. The force from it would push it back down.
