Just have an Invisible sphere object around the unit (following it using drone logic) and have all projectiles collide with it. Have the damage FX be a blue sphere thing (like the emp thing). You should be able to see shield health like any other oject, but it will be in green. Find some way to spawn another one after it.

in my attempts, if one used the overlord contain, then contained a unit that wasnt indestructible the unit "on top" took the damage first, (things would actualy aim at it before the main tank) so, containing a drone with a transparent "shieldbubble" model, may solve it. (thogh i never tested it thougholy)

indeed, its what I've posted before in a topic like this.
Make an OCL with an overlaying model of the original unit, then you can have it use auto heal as wel. However, once broken, it wont be able to regenerate again .... unless you put an upgrade on the unit with "repair shields" (so the OCL can spawn again via the upgrade.

Just do it like the GLA structures, make one unit with a shield appearence, and then when it dies it leaves behind a GLA "hole" which is really the same unit without the shield appearence. You might even be able to change the apearence of the first unit's healthbar, so that its red or something, signifying the shield strength. Of course, I'm not sure exactly how the GLA hole logic works, if it can only be with buildings or what.

i would say that you should build an upgrade like the overlord turrets...
then give it an emp like field around it which brocks all the rockets...
and set the damage which the "turret" gets to 100%...
now the "turret" must be killed at first to get to the main health points...

This discussion has come up before. The best way I can think of to do it is to make a drone upgrade where the drone is the shield. It has a self-heal module on it so the shield will "recharge" if you will. Just give it a KindOf that collides with the weapons you want deflected. The only downfall is that occassionally friendly fire from behind will strike the shield and damage it. And I think this might actually solve the idea of having 2 health bars since the drone would have its own health bar.

Start with your "shielded object" than upon death spawn your "Unshielded Object" Give it a Lifetime Update equal to the recharge time of the shields, than after it expires, destroy the "Unshielded Object" and respawn the "Shielded Object."
But you will prob run into what happens if someone blows up the unshielded object, than it may spawn the shielded object.
Mmmmm...

Just give it an immortalbody instead of activebody and use destroydie instead of lifetimeupdate.

Is it possible to have the drone always at exactly the same place as the master?
If yes, how?
