Default transparency issues - please help

I am having a majr problem getting transparency to work. I've followed tutorials and got nowhere!

I am looking to add a flame image to a flat plane and have the flame be additive (look hot - heat wise) and be properly masked (alpha channel).

Using Renx, I bring in my model and apply a Renx material.
I then go to pass 1 and leave vertex material on default settings
Shader blend mode on Alpha Blend with other options on default
Textures Stage0 checked with a .TGA of a blue flame with an alpha channel

What I get is the blue flame and the black showing up instead of the black being masked. I can't get the basic transparency to work much less make it look additive (hot).

I've tried various settings without success...

I am hoping someone will be able to help me.

THNX - db

Remember, you need to export properly.
That is File>Export, not the Export with Std Mtls button

Not really sure what the technical differences are yet. I will guess though...

If you export via the export button on the utility panel it must strip it down to just the standard material and leave out the proprietary functionality (flags and such) needed to work correctly. You can use that button to export if you just want base materials and animation. If you want transparency or to take advantage of the certain features like add, screen or sub you need to use the regular export under FILE.

It does make a difference. My stuff wroks correctly now - YAY! Thanks for the help! I never thought that would make a difference but it does - i am so ashamed :tard:

hmmm i see... can anyone comment on when each exporting method is most appropriate? ive only put one model in the game and i used the button... that worked fine, but im curious now as to what exactly would call for using file>export.

cause im not sure what you mean by the flags and add and screen and sub
