Default Strafing runs

Is it possible to get a plane (propellor plane) to do a strafing run with a chain gun-type weapon? For the people that don't know what that is: The plane flies to the target and fires its rounds in a line on the ground as it flies over the target, in an attempt to mow down a whole line of enemies. So it doesn't fire everything at the target itself, but in front of an behind it aswell. How do I accomplish this?

I'm not totally sur, but taking a look at the A10 will probably help.

Yes, but the A-10 is not only a superweapon, but it actually targets a single spot, so it doesn't really straff.

Yes it does it targets as small area then the bullets and missiles move slightly forward as it is firing them.

I believe it is possible, take a look at the 'Tech Mod' by Chris Hill (find it on generalsfiles.com). He has a plane that files over the targeted area and sprays toxin onto the ground. You could just make it bullets or missiles or napalm or bombs or whatever you want.

Give the bullets missile behaivour, dont allow the locomotor to turn, dont have target lock, and set the fire angle. You can set the fire angle in gmax with the bones pivot orientation if you dont want to code a turret.

Also theres a module tag that allows a weapon to be fired repeated at its host.maybe an invisible upgrade object drone slaved or overload containd that destroyed after say 3-5 seconds, and fired at itself so that the angle pointed to the ground....

Yes key0p I had thought about that myself, but I wonder if the targeting system of the unit will still allow the unit to fire. Because normally the unit has to aim itself or its turret at the enemy, but if it has no turret (and it can't aim itself while flying), it might not fire at all. All other aircraft use AcceptableAimDelta, but wouldn't that mess up the system alltogether? Or does AcceptableAimDelta only affect the AIMING and not the actual FIRING?

It has been proven that if you want hte effect of like the a-10 that it dives down and shoots that is impossible and this game engine does not allow such actions it is only possible as a superweapon.
You cant make any buildable units at the airport and be able to do this.

I don't want it to dive down (though it would be nice ), I just want it to fire in a line.

I think the JetAI works differently, and they can target on the move without a turret, as they can never stand still...Acceptable AimDelta effects the firing too, if you have say a delta of 30, you could shoot 15 degrees left or right of the barrel. But I guess if u keep it low then it might be ok and the plane will have to line itself up properly. To be honest, Ive never tried it, Ive been fiddling trying to make a satisfying carpet bomber - the a10s are next

You sure can make em buildable at the airport, but because you are using the deliverpayloadAI u cant use the JetAI so they wont land or do a proper take off sequence. And once you deliver their payload they will fly off the screen.

If you have Zero Hour, take a look at the Battleships from the second US mission because their artillery shells land in a line, but I doubt whatever is doing it is supported in generals....
