Generals RPG
Hi,
I've been wanting to do this for a while, and have numerous ideas:
Sticking with the current theme, add a General (or Hero) to each side. Each General picks his initial skills ( like force powers in Jedi Knight 1, 2 and 3 ) then they get upgraded and more abilities are added.
Give only 3 units to each side, in Final Fantasy style gameplay. Each one picks abilites again, battle with random opponents across the map.
These are just 2 ideas, and I would like your input/ideas as well.

Smurf is going to have a clean @$$ because you are kissing it
Now seriously, it sounds like a good idea. I'd play it, and it would make for some excellent and interesting online games. If there are only going to be a few units per side, its too bad you can't have more then 8 people in a game. Imagine like 20, how sweet would that be .

I highly doubt this would ever get finished...but, its a good idea that should at least be planned.
First off what time period is this set? It would need a good storyline. I'd suggest either a steampunk setting(like the battle chasers comic books...basically, kinda like mideval times..but with guns, and magic and cool stuff) or a futuristic halo-esque time period. This would be a squad tactics rts rpg...so it wouldn't be for purists.
The gameplay itself would need to be completely different from generals. This would focus on a small amount of units, a maximum of say...10 at any time. You would start out with 1 building, basically a command center/barracks hybrid. You start out with a certain amount of cash, and should use all your starting money on units (which units there are are listed later). Money would be very rare in the game. Anyways you would start out with 1(or 2) hero characters. The rest will be standard characters...things like "soldier, medic, mage".
Once you have your team, you go out of your base area, and hunt your enemy...your goal will be to kill as many of them as possible. Not only that, but npc(AI) map units will be around. These will be massive creatures, that when killed give you a good amount of exp and cash.
There will be a significant amount of upgrades in the game. Most will be gained automatically as your levels rise. Each character would have several class's, (example the soldier would have sniper and heavy weapons class's). Once you pick which class you have, you will gain more abilities and better skills as you rise up.
As for making the mod itself, it wouldn't be all too hard. A lot of modeling would need to be done to make the units, which have a much higher poly count than generals units. The infantry would have 2000-3000 polies each, and the bigger npc units would be 3000-4000. The game would also have a fixed zoom area, and it would be much closer then in generals.
---------just a few ideas, i'll post more later

I dont quite think I'm reading for such a project, I mena all I can do is skin. Very basic coding skills are all I have. I will happily have a shot at creating a mod that added Hero units to the game though, heres a rough idea.
Each side starts with the choice of 3 Hero units, as the battle goes on the player has the choice of upgrading that unit. Based loosely on the Generals (Airforce, Warlord etc), each unit would specialise in a different area of combat. A new building would be added to each side in order to allow the A10 Strike, EMP etc to still be used. Here is an example of one of the units:
Special Agent Archer -
At level 1, Special Agent Archer is armed with only a slienced pistol. As he gains experience he is able to choose from stealth upgrades, demolition charges or the ability to steal resources from the enemy. When he reaches his final level ( 5 ) he can call in an A10 Strike.
I realise this sounds a bit powerful, but remember that each faction will only be able to have one of these units in a battle.
This idea may be a complete flop, but with the input/ideas of the community I could perhaps finalise the concept and put it into action

I started playing around with a rpg idea a while back, i got warping in/outside buildings and talking to NPC's working (still a couple of bugs to iron out in this though). I just didn't have the time to continue it to a stage where it was ready to say anything about it.
