Kings is the best name, yet the idea of choosing a king would be rather weird.

Not really if you think about it like this:

Each completely unique side is a continent or distinct medeival society:
ex.
Medeival Europe
Ancient China
Ancient Middle East

Then you choose a King, but your really choosing a country or region in that area that the King rules. So in Europe there could be a British King, German King, French King, etc.
