Default Can we restore the sidebar?

Please tell me the menu item draw locations and cursor hotspots aren't locked up in the exe :dead:

I'd love it if this aspect of "bringing back the C&C feel" could be a feature of this mod...

I asked that question to DZ myself not too long ago:

Quote:
DeeZire: in theory yes, but you need GUIEdit to really pull that off
DeeZire: that would be tricky as youd have totally re-do the whole interface from the ground up
DeeZire: i thought about doing it, but the way gameplay has panned in generals, with theupgrades and all, i kinda prefer it at the bottom now.

Yes, it can be done, but as I said to the Moo-ster you need to do it with GUIEdit (program that lets you visually create and edit .wnd files). Trying to do this by editing the .wnd files in WordPad will kill you

I was planning on making a program like the Control Panel from RA2DZ which gives user access to some advanced functions again - maybe with that, we could offer users the option of normal command bar or sidebar, as all we would have to do is rename the relevant .wnd and .ini files to switch between the two before the game is run.

Its alonger term thing if we do it IMHO as it IS a lot of work - extensive editing too, to make sure everything appears in the right place.

Again, like I said, the idea really appealed to me, but the way the game is structured now meant that I came to much prefer it at the bottom.

If I can find the dependancy files, I'll throw GUIEdit your way Cannis - its a very nice toy Thats how I created the new Generals points menu.

OK I would be looking forward to it.

A while back somebody on the official forums made a mockup of a sidebar version of generals... it really did look great, much better than the bottom bar. If the user can choose which he wants then so mcuh the better

Bah, incorporating the promotion "mini-supers" popups into a sidebar won't be easy - that band-aid addition really confused the layout. Not sure what can be done to make it work practically now.

You can edit that so it appears on the left of the screen instead If you mirror the images too, nobody would know the difference.

I much prefer the bar on the bottom as well. However, I wouldn't be opposed to the option of choosing. It wouldn't be hard at all to implement, only time consuming.

Which .wnd file stores the info of the bottom bar? The only one I have really messed with so far is the Generals Exp Menu.
