Default Pulse Laser Effect

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a merry christmas and happy holidays.

Now for my question: I am project leader of Imperial Assault, and me and one of my coders, DJRowley, are trying to figure out how to put together a really good pulse laser effect. We have tried doing a projectile with a laser-like skin, then additive to keep away the black outside of the skin, but we have only achieved limited success:

The product is transparent and ineffective. We need the same look, vibrancy, and effect of the laser of the laser tank, but in a pulse manner.

What are our options? How can we achieve this Star Wars laser effect?

Thank you.

Uh, I will give you a hint. Look at the elite ranger or quad cannon weapon.

We don't want to use tracers. If we wanted to do that it would be easy, but we want them to glow

How about you use tracers in combination with the laser tank weapon? It would appear to fire a lasery shot no?

he doesnt know what he means, thats the problem.

I think you should take a look at some particles, and start from there.
I was thinking an invisible projectile with a afterburner, then make the afterburner realy thin and you should have a pretty decent laser.

That could work.....but it would slow the game down on older computers? Also, I still haven't worked out how to get that Particle Editor thingy working.... Any help on that?

I don't think it would be an issue for older computers...because if they can't handle that, they can't handle generals.

I thought that since this effect will be used for almost every weapon in the game, if you have lots of units on screen, it would cause the computer to slow down quite a lot...
