Default New to General' modelling

Hello folks, first post here, seems' to be the best C&C modding forums i can find. I've looked around (not in the forums admittedly) for information on Generals & ZH Modelling, but the information is sparce. Can anyone tell me what i need to make a working model in 3ds max 4.2?
That's all i have to work with, what other programs do i need to export the models into the game? unwrap the model to skin it? things like that

I apologise if all the information is already scattered about the forum, I was just about to go out and thought i'd post in desperation and hope for answer by when i get back.

Thanks in advance for your replies, I must say i love the look of some of the mods out there! Art of War/Imperial Assault , there were others i forgot.

Cheers

Hi Intrepid!

Here are some links that might help you:

1 - On the importance of the right modeling tools:

http://deezire.net/modules.php?name=...747&highlight=

2 - On the different inis and their meaning:

http://deezire.net/modules.php?name=...539&highlight=

3 - How to get the Renegade gamepack (called RenX) for Gmax:

http://deezire.net/modules.php?name=...653&highlight=

4 - On w3d importers:

http://deezire.net/modules.php?name=...681&highlight=

5 - 3DS Max 4.2:

I would suggest you start modeling in RenX but if you want to stick to 3ds you must export you model as .3ds files. Then you need to import those files to RenX and export them again.

6 - Unwrapping with ChilliSkinner:

http://www.chilliweb.co.uk/chilliskinner/

7 - Are you a good skinner?

Well this actually is something I ask you :-) Do you know how to skin properly?

Hope that helped,

- HEXman

That was pretty much the exact reply I was hoping for!

Thanks you very much for your assistance, much appreciated!

I've never tried my hand at skinning, chances are I will just make the models for now and get my girlfriend to do the skinning, (she's much more arty than me

Thanks again for your help!

Your are a lucky one! A girlfriend for skinning, I would not even ask mine to do that for me since I already know her answer: NO!

Glad I had been able to help you.

The "Spammer" thing is a bug in the forum IMO. It will go away after some posts you made.

Its not a bug, its just that anyone below 10 posts has it. When you consider how many people come here make 5 posts and are never seen again, its all good and dandy.
