Default Whats best, 1 large skin, or several small ones?

Hey. Just a quick question.

Whats best. Having 1 large skin with all skins in it, and applaying it to all your objects in the model (CHASSIS, TURRET etc). Or making several small skins, 1 for each object?

Say I have a tank, and draw both chassis and turret in 1 256x256 skin. And apply it to both chassis and turret (2 instances of the same skin). Would that eat up more or less resources ingame than having a 256x256 skin for the chassis and a seperate 128x128 for the turret?

1 skin = less space, less detail, 1 file
2 skin = more space, more detail, 2 file

your choice

I think its just down to personal choice. But I agree with ger1, the more textures you have the more detail you can create. I suppose it would also come in handy for creating a different effects for different parts of the skin eg. reflective surfaces on the windows of a jeep.

Yeah ok.

I was just a bit worried that each instance of the same texture might count as seperate textures in the game.

So if I map the same 256x256 texture to my turret and chassis. It would count as 2 256x256 textures. Whereas a 256x256 on the chassis and a 128x128 on the turret only would only count as that.

But come to think of it, that would be pretty daft coding on EA's behalf. So I guess it doesnt work like that

No it would count as one since there is only one texture.

Whereas a 256x256 on the chassis and a 128x128 on the turret only would only count as that. No it would count as two since there is two textures.
