Ok, as Generals uses 3d models, here are some websites where you can find tutorials and information on how to make good 3d models, how to UVW map them and how to animate them. I haven't tried to learn animating yet, but I know some good links for the other two. Hopefully this will grow to be a huge list which can help any beginning Generals modder to learn modelling...
3D Buzz - great site with general information on modelling for all kinds of modelling software (Softimage XSI, 3ds max, Maya, Lightwave, etc.). Has tutorials and training videos which you can sign up to get - for free
Assorted 3d tutorials - I haven't tried all of these, but the few that I have tried weren't bad... see if they can help.
Low Poly Character Modelling Tutorial - the model in this tutorial was originally made for Half-Life, but knowing that modern FPS games can have player models that have LODs with polycounts as low as 400, this can be applicable to Generals.
A forum page with loads of links - this thread was started for Quake 3 modelling/skinning but it has stuff which can help you when you are modelling for Generals. (There should actually be more links because the thread was continued at MapCenter, but since they changed servers recently they lost all their forum posts - including the continued version of this post)
TF2 "modelling" links - a page with tutorials for Half-Life modelling/skinning. There is a superb UVW Unwrapping tutorial there (the one by Scarecrow called Skinmeshing, for Max2) - very good stuff if you want to learn how to UVW Unwrap your models manually.
Chilliskinner - a tool that can unwrap your models UVWs within a minute guaranteed. Good if you have very complicated models that are a sore to unwrap manually.
Blueprints Website - courtesy of FatJoe, this is a site with blueprints of hundreds of different vehicles/objects, from Russian Tanks to American Choppers to even Star Wars stuff. Very cool site
Getting into the Game Industry - this is a guide by Kenn Hoekstra (Project Admin. at Raven Software) on how to get a job in the game industry, and it contains useful links on many areas (programming, 2d art, 3d art, 3d animation, etc.)
These are straight from my favourites list - there was also one more link, a page by NilreMK with two tutorials on low poly character modelling and skinning (it's located
here) however the site is down at the moment and will hopefully be back up soon.
Feel free to give any comments or additions.
Thanks,
Erebus
