I dont know if this has been posted, but going on the assumtion that it hasnt...
this is kind of a long way of doing it, but it works... so until dante or abjab or whoever makes an actual script, this is a proven way of doing it.
first, you need the tools.
http://www.dsmith.gmaxsupport.com/do...ems/md3exp.zip Md3 gmax exporter
http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/ Deep Exploration (demo version)
You export the model from gmax with the md3 exporter. Then use Deep Exploration as a middle man. Its a demo version, but it doesnt have a time limit. With it, you can convert the md3 file into a .3ds file. All you have to do after that is load up 3dsmax and import the mesh. I dont know if it converts animation and UV maps and everything as I havent tried that. But this works as a solution to the gmax -> max6 problem.
Thats all.
