Default choose your turret and or tank chasi. custom a current tank

I'm planning on making a miny mod that allows you to choose which turret(s) and or chasi the tank uses. Imagine a overloard chasi with the paladin turret or anyother setup. Maybe I will allow the overloard chasi to hold two turrets or other things with the primary turret of your choice. I will have it to where the strength and fire power of the tank varies with each of its parts. You will get more options of turrets and chasis depending on captured war factories. I will also try to get all the possible upgrades to work for the tanks, again depending on captured technology or your own. I will change the command set of the war factory to accomodate the many possible choices. However their will be some restrictions, for example a overloard turret on a crusader tank or any other small tank will not be an option unless others give me a ok.

Tell me what you, fellow moders and or mod users, think. If you have any suggestion or comments I am open to them.
-Thanks

This concept is one of those used in Warzone 2100. In that game you could select bodies, weapons and motive systems (within borders) to tailor your vehicles. implementing it in Generals will probably be a challenge to say the least.

Look at (I think) www.pumpkin-2.co.uk for more information.

Cheers,

There are many other games besides Warzone 2100 that do this. There was an old Sierra game called Outpost 2 that did this way before Warzone.

I will implement some limits on what is possible because it just doesn't seem right for some of the things.

How about an overloard with its turret and the anti-air laser of the avenger?

True enough. It's just that WZ2100 is one I remember well, since I've got it at home. It's also a 3D RTS, one of the first IIRC. At the time I thought that as far as the engine went it was that Tiberian Sun should have been.

You could approximate it by having a constructable APC or tank chassis/body which you could upgrade in a number of ways. You could either have a basic body with an upgrade menu in the vehicle or an 'upgrade center' which into which you feed APCs on one side and get 'upgraded' vehicles out of on the other.

For inspiration you could look at the M113 APC, which IRL has been upgraded in any one of dozens of ways. Dozer blades, MG turrets, missiles, mortars and mortar turrets, gun turrets (up to 90 mm low pressure), ADA, engineering, cargo, it's all been done. IMO only bribes prevented it from being chosen for the US Army's new medium brigades (the Stryker was chosen instead). http://www.armouredengineer.force9.co.uk/bucket/ has a lot of information on the M113 in its many forms.

Cheers,
ErikM

You don't build tanks in Outpost 1 but you do in Outpost 2.
In Outpost 2, you have to conduct research, via labs you have to build, on the different chasis and weapons and then build the vehicles at the vehicles at the vechicle factory.
I own and have played both of them for a considerable number of years, so I know what I am talking about.

go here for info on outpost 2:
