Default Modular Building?

How would you all go about doing this: making a faction that had most of its buildings be modular additions to the main command center. So say the command center is just a really big tower, then everthing else that is build is connected to it somehow. And every building is always built in the same place (their foundations are fixed)

is this possible? Could I do it with upgrades? Or anything?

All the buildings in one?! So that makes your whole base a big apartment complex sort of structure.

Interesting, I guess it's possible if you're an experienced (and patient) 3d modeler. There is only one huge object in the ini file, the commandcenter, and no builders only gatherers, or screw the gatherers, let's just make the command center upgradeable with an auto fund generating structure. That would require your .w3d file to be very large indeed, hiding and unhiding each subobject structure depending on the upgrade acquired by the command center. Howver, since that whole thing would be one single object, then it would only have one health, one price, one built time, one etc. and I think implementing it in code might introduce a lot of conflicts. But I think we could get around the conflicts but the resulting structure would behave eally strange indeed... and interesting.

I'll might try that myself later if it's a real can-do.

I really like the idea and I am thinking that it should be possible...I just don't have too many ideas as to how to exactly implement it at the moment. It would require some tricky as hell ini code done...especially if you want to get it to have an add-on that produces things.

I tried somethign like this i think. I made a littel airfield for the U.S. it linked off the massive airbase they have now. The only problem was it interferred witht eh airbase,a nd it always fucked up something different,. But i was new to coding then so i dunno. Ill look into it again, i have the code on my comp back home, ill have my brother email it to me. *when one is determined, they'll find a way*

well you could do it like:
instead of having 1 building have a command and tech builing and have a militry building and have a supper weapon building

and make the things upgrades which unlock more and more tech/units
somewhat like the command center
you would need a lot of techset menus

Yea, I am getting the idea it would just be like that pic Proclone posted...

I have given this a little more thought, and the following should be fairly easy to do...

-powerplant add on
-radar add on
-AA gun platform
-ground defence platform
-defensive wall structure (basically just graphical, and then gives an hp and armor boost)

You could also merge the barracks and the war factory into one all purpose factory to simplify things. I think you might want to make it so that the air units are built at a separate place. The same thing goes for the supply depo.
