Default How to add units to generals

Most of us know how to make units, use 3ds max (or gmax) to create geometry, skin using UVW stuff. Excellent tutorials are floating around on the subject of doing these things. How exactly is a unit put into Generals? What can be used to convert Gmax or 3ds max geometry into W3D? I've found many programs that import W3D, but to put new creations into the game, the opposite must be done. Once the geometry, skins, animation is in the game, how is the unit built? What INI files must be edited to allow the production of this unit (how do we give it a picture that we can click on to build it?). Do we have to replace generals units with our own, or can both coexist (on the menubar at least =P). These are the most pressing problems the mod community (save the Blitzkrieg 2 team, who has some great looking ingame screenshots) is having, implementing our cool 4 legged mechs and suicide rabbits into the game. Any help would be appreciated

In reply to my own question, the following must be done;

1. The easiest thing to do would be to just assign one of the pictures on a build bar to your unit, since I'm not sure where the pictures on the build bar are located (not in textures.big far as I can tell). To do this, go into Factionunit.INI and just take a unit and change all the paths to your unit's w3d files and textures. Then change the settings to what you want your unit to be.
2. On the subject of creating w3d files, I think it can be done with the renegade gmax pack. I know there is a w3d importer for 3ds max, If anyone knows of an exporter, please let me know.

This is about all I've determined it takes to add a unit. If there is anything I'm forgetting, post below.

You can save a file as w3d with the renegade tools (Renx) . You can get the w3d importer here: http://www.renevo.com/downloads You can open edit and save DDS with a photoshop plugin by nvidia. Proclone has a tutorial on it, just click on tutorals, generals, basic skin editing.
