thats true, both those games are well detailed, but you yau have to remember that they are also console games playin on a tv, at only about 640 x480 resolution, which eases up on the machine substancially.
I agree with Guyee, 50000 is about the total poly count of a games entire scene, adding even a single new unit with another 50000 would be a big slowdown if not a crasher.
now adding a couple 100 polys to a single model that maybe you just want to create more focus on and will ther only be a few in the scene at a time may not be a problem. iv done that, but if you want to make a mod meant for everyone to use, no one will like it if it plays to slow.

Are you by any chance the same Pestilence that is working as a modeller for Tenebrae 2. I'm Adam, a coder (or was?) on the Tenebrae team.

No, I'm still on the team it's just it seems most of the members have moved on to new projects. The lead coder now works for a gaming company and doesn't have much time.
