Default how to apply material by maxscript?

how to apply a material to a mesh by maxscript?
I use the code likes mesh.material = somematerial to do that. but it creates a new material instead of assigning the mesh to an exist one. do you know which codes I should use properly?

to go farther, how to apply a multi-material by maxscript?

Default maxscript

nope I dont know .. i havent use it myself but if I rememebr well when I was testing in the material navigator you could see all skins used but the problem was that you need to re apply them.
Just drag them into the part youare interested to.

Not sure tho...

see ya!

I never knew I could apply texture with maxscript...

Whats wrong with the material navigator?

Apart from the bugs where it likes to dissapear and you have to click on the screen to make it appear or reload renx if that fails

No wrong. I am trying to improve the w3d->gmax script to support multi-material.

Very cool, coolfile. Are you starting an import script from scratch or working on another? I wasn't aware there was one that had its source public, but I don't know much about maxscript. Also if you could please support full animation importing

yes. It was scripted by Seagle who was at www.cncgenerals.com. But I cannt contact him because the site is down and it is not a evil to improve it. After analyzed his script, I almost understand the w3d file format and have capability to make it better.
