I was thinking of working on that effect to, but have decided to put it off for now, but if you want ill mail you the model or PSD file which ever you need, and i would like to know the technique your planning to use for future reference.

I have everything I need ta I tried doing the silverbirds tute, but I could not get it to work properly on a single pass, so Im using two passes for the cockpits material(see Renegade Public Tools How-Tos in the renx install folder).The first pass is the cockpits base texture and has an "alpha blend" alpha channel mapped where the windows are.The second pass is also "alpha-blend", with an enviroment map of lakedust to create the reflective effect.

this is the first time taking a look in the RenX Public tools, didnt realize how much info they give with it. i noticed that there quit a bit of info on using renx with 3ds max, do you use it with 3ds max, and if so how did you make it work cos i cant figure it out. and were exactly is the info you found on this cockpit work? wich is outstanding and yes i want to include it, i mean i can skin well and before iv always tried to accomplish such an effect thru Photoshop, cos im still learning about multilayer materials and such. but this is a better route it seems.
So you didnt neet to ad any pylys to do this?

I dont ahve 3DMax, only Gmax.You need to apply the info to gmax(which is made by the same people and is basically jsut a stripped down free version).Some information is also only for C&C Renegade, but most of it still applies to generals.

The parts that deal wioth material application are C:\Program Files\RenegadePublicTools\HowTo\W3D Tutorials\content\w3d_materials.htm however they dont tell you how to create effects, they jsut give you a description of what each button/menu and its options are.

Ill make a tute on making see through reflective surfaces once I have a better understanding of the settings.

You dont need to add polys to add the effect, but I added the pilots and some polys in the cockpit to stop it being see thru and so I can apply texture.Of course, using effects is more costly on performance than not using effects.

i see how now, im not worried about the processing personaly my comp can handle it.
im still gonna send you my model file cause im swampped to much to do it myself, ill get them to you tommorow from my work email. thx

heh I dont know if ill be able to do it before you can(while I can access my computer anytime, I cant actually spend a lot of time on it), but Ill do it once I got my cockpit done.
