Default DDS File Problems

Im having a problem saving a skin i have created in bmp format to DDS.
I am using PSP 8 and have created the skin in BMP format. The skin fits the model and is applied to the .gmax model.
I have gone to save the bmp into dds format, selecting explicit alpha in the nVIDIA save box, however, the save icon remains ghosted! Can somebody help me out plz?

You need to convert the BMP to TGA and follow the instructions above

Hey guys no problem anymore!
I had to resize my tga image to 512 x 512

Do you need to save them (texture files) as DDS, or will Generals recognize the .tga files and use that instead?

generals will use the .tga file fine, it's what I've been using.

the .dds are need for different game LOD I think. But .tga will work as default.

After a bit of quick testing, if the file you initially use is a tga it will work fine, but if the file is initially dds you need to use a dds. I tested it with the humvee texture, and the controlbar texture.
