I remember reading a tutorial by Smurf Bizkit on ra2mods.com . That was... beginning 2001.

That's only worth something to the modding-fans, like the RenAlert community ("That tank 0wns! Sweet! I luv!"), or the Derelict one ("J00 rule, but I want that-and-that tank")... We don't really care :| .

I think that all the mods going on right now is GREAT! This is what RA2 needed to stay going, Mooman's Rules and Deezire's mod were great, but we needed more. Look around, we've got WWIII, WWII, WWI, Star Wars, Real War, and tons more TCs, plus regular mods or mods that add sides and features like Second Wave and An Act of War. ANY RTS fan can find something he/she would like! I think that mods need to stop competing and be helpfull with each other, that way we can all learn something, and credit can be given without having to steal things from other mods just to get your own out.

I find it difficult to believe you think you can define what makes a great modder when you've been around C&C editing for probably less than a year. Some of us have been around since TS, some others have been around since RA1 and C&C. How about the people that started C&C modding, not someone who releases a tutorial that simply rehashes knowledge already known by most people in the community, just for the sake of teaching some 12 year old to mod so that he can add lasers to every unit in the game. That's not helpful, nor will it ever be.

Don't come in here and tell those of us that have been fans and modders of C&C for years what makes a great modder.

And on another note, I'm so sick of this Derelict bashing, granted I work with them now, so I might be slightly biased, but even before I thought it was ridiculous. Have you ever thought of other's sides? Maybe some people have been around long enough to see tons of n00b mods crash and burn, and they're right when they say you won't succeed. But every topic doesn't have to become a massive slamfest on Blitz and DS, because you don't like that they try to run things proffesionally, and not be n00bs about it.

55k ppl who download the mod doesn't say they all like it. You're just doing it for the downloads. You're mentioning the downloads everywere, you are making a mod for fun not for downloads.

Agreed freefall. No quality but quantity? I would do it the other way.

'Helping eachother to help ourselves' is one of the principles on which I based this site. Helping others out is a great way to improve yourself - just about every time I have helped somebody with something, I usually learned something myself or at least got inspiration for a different way of trying something, which in turn usually opens up opportunities or takes you in a new direction.

Ill spare you the full-blown lecture now, but this is the very basis of my theory of 'a virtuous cycle of continual development' which IMHO is what game devs should take on board - this is the direction Valve favor with the HL engine - the devs learn from the modders which in turn means that the devs can provide modders with more opportunities and on it goes - the end result is a continually improving standard of end product, thus benefiting the end user, improving game quality/dev team standards/skills, enhancing game lifetime, augmenting brand loyalty and thus extending sales - everyones a winner.

This is a very wise thing to say, DZ.

You get what you give, basically.

It is easier to say where you want to go instead of saying where you don't want to go.

Maybe some of us get are "fun" from knowing that so many people have downloaded it, that we have so much exsposure, and that people like it. Sure, making it is fun, but knowing your hella popular to just makes it so much more fun.
