Default 3ds Max + RenX

I finally downloaded Renagade tools. The Renegade Editor works fine but RenX does not. For RenX I copyed my 3ds Max folder so I did not have to keep reinstalling it everytime it does not work. It used to come up with cant find certain things so I modified the plugins.ini in the RenX folder. now I am left with a message saying "mtlgen.dlt Is missing" then after clicking OK it comes up with "3ds max failed to start". I copied the mtlgen.dlt file into all of my folders in the copyof3dsmax folder but it still comes up with the same 2 meaasges.
Why does it keep comming up with this error message and is there anything I can do to stop it apperaing.

RenX simply won't work with 3DS Max. You can use the W3D importer with it, though.

RenX is a gamepack for Discreet's Gmax, basically a freebe version of 3DS Max 4, you can download it for free from Discreet's website, but alas, it wont work in 3DS Max

GMAX plugins are NOT compatible with 3dsmax and the other way around.

Only 3dsmax scripts that do not rely on any form of output and don't have any reference to rendering have a big chance to work in both versions.

Wow the same thin 3 times but worded differently.
Surley it would work if I replaced the 3ds max mtlgen.dlt with the GMax one since that is all that is says is wrong.

Read my lips:

IT WON’T WORK...

After 12 years of working day in day out with 3dstudio and 3dsmax, I'm pretty well aware where the limitations are.

You'd need the source code of the plugin and knowledge where the differences are to be successful in recompiling it for 3dsmax.
Next to that you should know that GMAX uses a completely different code for the material editor then in 3dsmax. So you'll need to rewrite that from scratch...
3dsmax Plugins are not even exchangeable between versions, with the exception of max4 and max5, as they used the same compiler for those versions. With each new compilers release ALL plugins need to be recompiled. If you don't have the source code, you're screwed...

why do you want it to work with 3DS max anyway?

just use gmax. it does the job fine for Generals models.

I have 3ds Max already and to try my models ingame I would have to download GMax and a Convertor on my 56k modem.
