It is impossible to write an exporter in GMAX. !!!

All maxcsripting related to exporting or getting any sort of data out has been removed.
The best you can do is to output to the scriptlistner, but copy/paste is limited to 1500 characters at once, which makes it virtually useless...

If you want to learn scripting the best thing is to analyse what others did and slowly work your way up.

i've been fidling around with the scripting and so far i have only managed the buttons and to load only specific file types.
This is hard! Are there any good scripters out there that could help me a bit?

I'm no gmax scripter but Renx version of Gmax CAN export w3d files so there must be some kinda export but I'm sure it's locked away and cannot be scripted back. RenX is basically used for command and comquer renegade and generals. So that's not gonna help. I sure you're outta luck.

you need to have the GmaX SDK.It costs more then 3DS Max, iirc so its pretty much impossible

Actually, it is called DMAX DEV and does indeed costs A LOT more then 3dsmax.
The companies that want to make an export module for their game need to buy a licence of GMAX DEV. That's how they pay discreet for the fact that gmax is free...
As I repeated it often, it is NOT possible to export into a file or even a bitmap with maxscript, because all exporting code has been removed.

As for making a difference between RENX and GMAX, it is pointless because it IS the same program. RENX just adds some different frontends, but you can just as well use the RENX tools if you copy them into the normal plugin directory...

Export code is still there but you can't specify a file mode. And as the default mode is read only.....
