A really really noob question about importing w3d's to gmax
Ok I am wanting to get into modding modeling and all that other fun stuff... I have downloaded gmax, renx, a w3d importer (several of those actually) and also a supposed gmax,renx,w3d importer standalone that is supposed to have it all bundled in one install I have tried them all and on both my desktop and my laptop I cannot find a import w3d file button or nothing like it... I also don't see it under the utilities drop down from the hammer tab and then under max script, should it show there am I doing something wrong is the w3d importer not getting installed right also if it is installed right, from opening renx what should I do step by step to get to the import w3d button if someone doesn't mind helping me out I would appreciate it greatly thank you in advance...

in the utillities panel after you click on Max Script button there are other buttons, Open Maxscript and Run Maxscript. Click open maxscript, a window should open allowing you to find a maxscript file. This window should by default open the default location for Maxscript files. If you dont see a file with some type of W3D name in there then you need to put the Maxsript file w3dimporter in there and start over.

I made a new w3d importer core script that fixed all the bugs of prev ones. and now I am working on its user interface. If you could not wait it out, I would like to give you the core script.

Ok thanks for all you're help so far... heres where I am... I uninstalled and re-installed gmax, RenX and, the w3d importer just to make sure I was starting from a clean slate... now, I have clicked on the utilities tab, then the MAXScript button then if I choose open Script I have the Startup folder and a new file from before I Unzipped the w3d importer... it is called "RenX-WME.ms" when opened it contains the following script
"macroscript ImportW3D
category: "W3D Importer"
buttontext: "Import W3D"
tooltip: "Import a W3D file"
icon:#("RenXWME",1)
(
OpenW3DImporter()
)
macroscript SetW3DFlags
category: "W3D Importer"
buttontext: "Set W3D Flags"
tooltip: "Set W3D tool flags"
icon:#("RenXWME",2)
(
OpenW3DFlagsTool()
)"
so the importer is there... now when I click the Run Script button and select that Script nothing as far as I can tell happens... is it supposed to oped a new window which will allow me to import w3d's or just make a new butto if so where is this button at what is it's Icon if any know and can show me... I have not tried this on my laptop yet so it could just be a glitch on my computer... I realize that it probably works fine I am just not figuring it out so I thank you for you're patience in helping me with this all and I know this question is really begginer but I suppose I have to start somewhere lol well ty lot's and ty coolfile I might take you up on you're offer I just want to make sure it's not "user error" first lol

Grab Seagle script http://gendev.origin-network.net/paf...tion=file&id=9 it goes in \gmax\gamepacks\Westwood\RenX\scripts\startup folder.Then when you start Renx you will be able to choose it from the utilities maxscript drop down window.
