How do you move an object up and down without its proportions being changed?

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm new to modelling...

I dont know what you mean but i think you mean this moving something in gmax you must do select the object then righmouseclik then moven en move the object with the green red and blue arrows

I can do that in Gmax, but not in RenX. Maybe I've turned the feature off by accident?

If there is a way to turn it off, I've probably done that. How do I turn that feature back on?

Why not reinstall only renx to see if that works

there is a tool button at the top that looks like plus sign with arrows at each end, click that so that it is shaded, then use the arrows of the gizmo in the viewport to move in theat direction. if those arrows arent there, then go to customize-preferences, click on Viewport panel, and at the bottom should be a box with gizmo settings allowing you to turn the gizmo on and off.
