Default Strange model problem

I'm having this weird problem with our models. The polies are shaded all wrong. I suppose pictures speak for themselves:

As you can see, there's all kinds of lines on the roof and on the back in the corner. The windows also have some strange effects. So then I tried to fix it. Which worked, but only partially:

The roof still has some strange shade effect on it, although it isn't as prominent as it was before. The windows are still unchanged. The corner on the back seems to be fixed, but I don't know why that did work and the other places are still messed up. So does anyone know what's wrong, and how I can fix it?

Reduce the smoothing of the smoothing group applied to the model.

I didn't make this model, it was done by SoulReaver. And he's already tried all sorts of things with smoothing, but nothing seems to work. And I don't understand any of it. Smoothing? :scared: Smoothing GROUPS? :wtf: Autosmooth? :dead:

On the right side, above "where you select vertex, edge, face ... " and below the name of the object you have a modifier list.

Select: smoothing

There you can check auto smoothing and put a value in the threshold ... like 30, 40 or so .. experiment

I think it only recalculate where the vertexes should be ... so that curves becomes less edgy ... I'm not good at explaining this stuff

No need to waste an extra modifier on this

-select your object
-go to the Modify tab
-in your stack, there should be an editable mesh
-select polyon sub-object mode (red square) or hit "4"
-in the edit menu : "select all"
-move to the bottom and hit auto smooth
-your smoothing groups will now recalculate according the mesh topography
just go out of sub-object mode again.. and you're done.

@darkslayer
All though the smooth modifier works also, you should take the habit to never leave a stack intact and always collapse it back to an editbale mesh.
