Default Big Bertha Ingame

Hey guys,

Well today i managed to get one of the biggest artillery piece on earth in game. It was very heavy, but due to my unlimited strenght (yes i got supernatural powers) i managed to get this picture of the monster ingame, the model was made by squire together with the skin, uruk-animated it and brought it ingame:

Big Bertha ("Dicke Berta")
This 420 mm (that's 42 cm ) was build by Krupps. It owns the name from the wife of Mr. Kupps himself (i dont know if she was to happy with that)
These artillery piece were used to blown the hell out of the Belgian fortresses at Liege and Namur in 1914.

Hope you like it...

kind regards,

Uruk-Hai + TGTW team

nice model, but it's not the biggest artilery piece in the world...

meet "Dora"

This monster of a gun fired 80cm rounds, which means it had a bore of 31.5 inches. It took two tonnes of propellant charge to send one the big 7 tonne shells twenty-nine miles.

It was mounted on no less than 40 railway axles and weighed in at over four hundred tonnes. It had to be dismantled to move, which took two thousand men to accomplish. The mere task of aiming, firing and reloading this single gun took 500 men.

This gun was designed specifically to breach the French "Maginot Line" underground bunkers and "popup" gun turrets, which ran from Belgium to Switzerland. Hitler ordered 3 of them, but got impatient and started World War 2 before they were completed. Without his big guns to cut through the Maginot Line, The only option Hitler had was ignore the neutrality of Holland and Belgium. His armies cut through them, bypassing the dreaded forts, and for the second time in just 21 years half of France lay in German hands.

Only 2 of these big guns were ever built, with half the parts complete for a third.

Anyways, Big Bertha had the longest range of any artillery piece ever made, and proved it by bombarding Paris from some 58 miles away...

not sure if your useing these as a structure or a vehicle (build wise) but assumeing structure, you could use the firebase containment to have a crew to it (who could be sniped) though i'm not sure about the makeing it unable to fire without crew. vehicle wise, you might be able to use the overlordcontain.

Meet: "paris gun"

This gun had a range of 120 km which was used, as the name allready indicates, to bombard paris. Well i am almost convinced that this is gonna be the german superweapon.

About the bigbertha, it may seem stupid but it's gonna be a vehicle. With some force it's gonna be towed, by a kinda tractor (link up). Maybe as a special Artillery unit (General ludendorf ) uses. Because the big bertha was in fact a mobile version of the 'gamma' mortar.

I'm am very eager to model the 'paris' gun now, so maybe you'll see it ingame next week ....

Anywayz i got a new sceenshot for you from the A7v sturmpanzerkampfwagen.

Greetingz,

Uruk-Hai

*cough*

Not entirely true. The Maginot was indeed an excellent fortification system, however the Germans did penetrate it without the uberartillery. It wasn't impregnable. Though it's little known since those exploits were on a secondary line of advance, the primary being the tank rush through the Ardennes forest and onwards.

Also going through Belgium wasn't at all that innovative, as in WWI that was again the main German line of advance.

The germans have diverted the French-German border 2 times.
In WW1 there was the "plan-schlieffen" which ment the invasion of belgium then into northern france. In that plan the heavy artillery pieces like this one were crucial in order to destory the belgium fortresses at namur and liege, because infantry rush at a fortress is useless.
The plan Schlieffen and the rest of the western front 1914-1918 can be viewed up here: TGTW history section

Also i never said bertha was the biggest
