keyOp how about this from a guy who's actualy phoned the help line.

customer(me) - yeah there seems to be somin wrong with my graphics card.

dell - is there sir, right well its still under garantee will get u a new one, and give u some free stuff for the the hassle.

customer(me) - oh thankyou. (wrap card up send it back)

3days later - open up box new graphics card, stylus and digital camera.

adamstrange if u have absolutly no problems with nothing else with your pc then it could just be how the mods been coded. but if u dont have anything of greater importance on your pc then a nice clean up cant hurt.

This thread have probably outlived its purpose - but just to add (I love that)

Every Support Center have their issues, so yes, there is ppl with bad experience with dell support.

I worked over 2 years at an ISP Internett support and my experience with dell is just great.

Me: "you need to reinstall your isdn card".
Customer: "ok I call dell"
2 hours later:
customer: "It's done - now get me onto the internett"
...then I set up his computer and every thing works.... customer happy

My experience is that you get a better support from dell than others. How is the support? Thats a different Q.
If you have no qlue about computers and are building one yourself, then YOU have to support yourself... which of course can be a pain.
But then you have the other OEM ... like those who start with "com" and ends with "pac" THAT charges you for restoring your computer (maybe thats changed the last years .. .but I doubt it).

...besides I have stopped helping ppl building their comp, or at any way finding stuff for them ... because I am just tired of supporting them. Now I just say: Call Dell - bye bye.

I just have to ask is anyone here using linux by any chance?
also, if you have a dell, my opinion is get a new comp, cuz dells suck( my opinion) and comcraps are even worse.
BUT for modding the OS has nothing to do with it, if it carashes its cuz u did somethingl; IF your comp runs slow, its because it is a not fully upgraded.

XP is much more stable than 98 hands down. However, it is still Windows so expect crashes. Also 98 needs to restart for every damn thing. It's annoying! At least XP is a little more efficient and intelligent when it comes to installing devices, drivers, etc.
However, Deezire and jmb8785 are right. For the most part OS doesn't matter.

I know you guys are much more computer savvy then i am but why do you suppose that I DID SOMETHING WRONG :scared:

How wrong can it be to simply install Generals with no mods, and then it crashed after about 2 days from the time that i brought it.

OK get this:

I brought this PC less than a month ago and Generals and ORB crashed.

STARSHIP TROOPERS would not run at all except for the intro movie, regardless of the XP and NVidia patches.

JETFIGHTER 4,which on the box says Windows XP does not even run at all...then guess what...the hard drive crashed

I called dell which took me through the usual steps, and found that the hard drive had failed the dianostics test, was no good,so they sent me another one.

Guess what, generals crashes on the new current drive also,so does FINALBIG,which crashes at time when i try to delete a file from within the BIG.file.

Dell's support is just GREAT and i never was dissatified with there support.

Now i don't know what specs are within in your machines and i would like [if you don't mind] if you guys can to post the specs of your machines.

If after i reformat this drive and setup a dual boot with XP PRO/98 and reinstall the game,if i get the same crashes,i'm dumping this machine and will try another configuration.

But one thing is certain, and that is that i will never ,ever use windows ME for gaming or serious song writing.

I have seen that OS do somethings that a lot of people thought was impossible.

Case in point:

ME burnt sounds that i created INTO the installation file of one of my music programs...it burnt INTO THE CD itself, without activating the drive or the burning software.

So imagine if you have BATTLEFEILD 1942 on you PC and then you install Genaerals on the same machine.

Now after playing Generals you shut down you PC and the next day you turn it on and take the disk out and install Generals on another machine that never had BATTLEFEILD 1942 on it.

Now when you start to play Generals, you not only hear the Generals sounds but you also hear the sounds from BATTLEFEILD 1942.

Not only that, you then go into the Generals program files and you see the BF'42 sounds in there, and every time you uninstall and delete the folder, and then reinstall Generals, the BF'42 sounds are once again install in there.

They are now part of Generals,as if EA put them in as part of the game's sound effects.

Now if anyone one knows of a virus that can do this, please tell me about it.

That's extremely weird. I got a bit confused with all the switching in your stroy , but I can tell that I've had bad experiences with installing/un-installing Battlefield with Generals installed. They both both under EA Games in the registry and I uninstall Battlefield once and it deleted the whole EA Games registry section screwing up my Generals install. Weird...
