I guess looping it seamlessly is anyway a better idea then making a hell of large texture and applying it to a plane..

Well, the texture part is easy, just do a map instead of a skin and do a 256x256 texture and repeat it a lot to make it look better. Buy I imagine the actual movement would be harder to loop seamlessly if it were a radiation field then say a Linear Offset like the tank treads which would pretty much do it seamlessly for you. Perhaps I'll experiment with it a bit (once my hardware comes to me) and post what I come up with.

that effects is simply two big planes with UV offset textures set to 'add' nothing fancy.

I looked in to doing stuff like that when I was playing with mod concepts.

You got that right. If you check out his forums (which it sickens me to do) he said outright that he wouldn't reveal his methods of doing anything until after he released the mod.

Apparently he has also devised methods on doing zero gravity, subterranean vehicles, and mobile structures although I somehow doubt that these are as spectacular as he makes them out to be

subterranean vehicles arn't that hard to do...its just that they arn't really subterranean, its just an illusion

as far as mobile structures, I dont' see how that would be all that difficult

and wtf does zero gravity mean? how does that work?

This guy makes ACK seem humble.

When you zoom in, the cloud layer disappears... when you zoom out, you see the cloud layer. All aircraft fly above this layer. That's how Crimson did it. Question is, why does it look so crappy in the video, but so good in screenshot?

I'm not too keen on extra cloud layers

Sure, it may look good, but it becomes a disadvantage tactically

I play ZH with practically all the effects set to a minimum, rather than waiting 20 seconds for a fuel-bomb cloud to clear, I can see the bomb-site 5 seconds afterwards instead

Plus there's an increase in frame-rate, as expected

By turning off the cloud feature in the settings page, I managed to increase my average framerate from around 75fps to 90fps (still, not as close as the 120fps my monitor can handle)
