Default My mod idea

Setting: 2006 Somalia

Factions:
US
Somalian militia

Basic Gameplay outline:
-Gameplay is centered around urban combat. Realism would be strongly emphasized.
-The game would progress through several conflict levels. At the start, it might play like black hawk down early on (Blackhawks, little birds, Rangers and technicals....)
-The combat is ALWAYS infantry-based. Any major victory will be made with infantry. Urban combat will prove deadly for tanks withouth infantry support.
-Asymetrical Gameplay: In real life, People are much more careful with the lives of their soldiers. So when you'd lose rangers in my mod, their body's would slowly drain $ from your budget for a whiile. This would force all US players to pick their fights and plan out more complex operations. The US should win the majority of open engagements, but careless use of this strategy would only doom them in the long run. For the Somalians, the tactic would be to cause casualties amongst American ranks until their funds are drained and they are overwhelmed.

I've got more detailed plans, but thats it for now...

It's a nice idea to try out, but I'd suggest coding this first to see if it works. It's daring, and it'd be a shame if someone put a lot of work into modelling if the gameplay fails.

Very Interesting indeed. In theory it's easy to code the dead bodies part.. but the problem is how they get "removed" or if the necessary code works on those kind of units.. time will tell.

You'd have to change some AI tags though especially the ones that tell the AI to auto-crush, because otherwise you'll just lose units 24/7 and lost a lot of money.

Still good though, keep it up

Getting them removed is just as easy, lifetimeupdate or deletionupdate (depending on the "body" module" would both do the trick.

Well since people seem to be very interested, the next question is who would be willing to help with the creation of the mod?

The only problem I see with it is that urban combat is not strictly infantry for there are light vehicles as well. There are vehicles used now that have sensors that can pinpoint where people are firing from in buildings. There is even anti-rpg/rocket armor for vehicles. Even in urban combat there is the occasional air support.

I never said it was only infantry, I said that it was always centered around infantry. They are never going to be replaced, but they will be accompanied with tanks, AFVs, humvees, helos and air support given the right conflict level.

ahhhh, i love a good strategy mod. it bothers me to see people spend the lives of their troops so frivelrously just to win. no strategy to that kind of gameplay, but with this, it would really become addictive as there would be many strategies to be thought of making its simplicity actually more complex, and it would really lighten up on all defensive and all offensive strategies.
