Default Nighttime

Buildings in the night maps have windows that glow, I used to know how to do this, but I havent had to work with it in a looooooooong time. How do you do it in generals. you know, that neon/lit windows thang.

AFAIK it's just done by using a new model for the NIGHT condition, and retexturing that model to have bright windows.

The night texture for the model is certainly different ... but is it only the texture that glows?

yes i beleive so. if you go through the generals textures you see skins of the windows bright yellow and the rest of the texture tottally blacked out.

I saw this effect in Renegade as well, for neon signs.

If anyone can tell me how to do this please do.

Maybe I should just check the Renegade tutorial site, but Generals is slightly different...

Generals is not that different, it uses part of Renegade's rendering engine. On a low level anyway.

I *think* they use a second Alpha channel to define luminosity

I'm not sure, this is only a guess really

But there's bound to be another map for luminosity

I do beleive you can easily just take the skinned building, copy the texture as another filename, cut all the parts except what you want to glow, leaving all areas black except the glowing parts, and then apply it to the model over the original skin but somehow it only shows up if the map settings are for night or something.

Can someone please solve this?

Until someone does I will investigate in the Renegade universe and see how it is done, and see if there is no change for the generals version :-S
