...But hey! this mod isn't "realistic" or "modern" or whatever
I thought I'd articulate my previous suggestion of a "Microsoft" mod further
So.... Presenting the concept for the
MicrosoftMod!
Anyway
The three factions are replaced as so:
USA --> Microsoft Corporation
GLA --> The Open Source Movement
China --> USA Department of Justice
Add another faction --> Spyware Companies
The game isn't based on military stuff, per-se...
Instead, the entire map is covered in models of computers (which are actually civilian buildings as far as the game engine is concerned)
The main "units" in the game are infantry, and they must capture/garrison the "computers" to conquer the market
Each faction has special "upgrades"... be it "Product 'Enhancements'" for Microsoft, "Government Sponsorship" for the OSM, "More expensive lawyers" for the DoJ, and "exploits" for the spyware companies
To keep the game realistic, yet balanced... Microsoft's "upgrades" take the longest to complete, cost more, and add an increased probability that their units may suddenly self-destruct for no reason at all (with a nice BSOD effect to boot

), but their units are the most powerful
Open-Source's units are faster and more "secure", but have trouble conquering "home" users
the DoJ's entire "army" consists of lawyers and judges, the lawyer's main attack is "find excuse to sue" where-upon it approaches a "product" and attaches a piece of paper, which causes that "product" to self-destruct
Finally, Spyware's "products" attack by slowly draining the health, speed, and responsiveness of their targets, in the case of DoJ units, they are useless... however; their attacks are DEVASTATING to DoJ computers (due to the DoJ's lack of technical know-how in the field of computer repair)
Spyware's "products" are most effective Vs. Microsoft's products, and exceptionally good against Microsoft's main product, "Windozer" (which is their main base-builder, geddit?

)
So in layman's terms:
Generals = MicrosoftMod
Units = Products
Civilian Buildings = Computers
Faction Buildings (DoJ) = Court Houses / Solicitor Establishments
Faction Buildings (Else) = Software Houses / Developer Networks
Faction Units:
M$: Windozer = Builder and main "attack" product
M$: Orifice =
M$: Enconcuer = Scout/Intelligence
M$: IIS = Good Vs. OpenSource & DoJ, Bad Vs. Spyware
M$: Interweb Explorer = Poor Vs. Everyone (but its the cheapest and most "effective" weapon for conquering "civilian computers")
OSDN: Linux = Main assault product & constructor
OSDN: OpenOfficeOrg = Good Vs. DoJ, Poort Vs. Microsoft's Orifice
OSDN: Firefox = Excellent Vs. M$IE & Spyware
DoJ: Judge = Useless unless accompanied with Lawyers, where they become ultra-powerful
DoJ: Lawyer = Standard attack unit
DoJ: "Sue KaZaA user": Forces a civilian to build buildings for them
DoJ: "Back SCO-Group": Allows DoJ units to attack open source products
Spyware: Gator = Main assault and constructor
Spyware: Go!zilla = Increases the attack speed of all products around it
Spyware: KaZaA = Great Vs. Civilian Buildings
Spyware: Bonzi-Buddy: Uses it's "stupid monkey hop" attack to completely obbliterate virtually all Windozers around it
Spyware: Home Search Assistant = Does great damage against Internet Explorer
Spyware: "Develop Linux Products" = A researchable exploit, causes all attacks Vs. Linux units to be 50% more powerful
--------------------------------------
So hows that an idea for a mod?
It fields all the stuff
none of the other mods can
a) Its realisitc
b) It' would be relativly easy to produce
c) Its waaay more likely to get sued
Tell me watcha think
