Construction Yard Code Cracked??
Good news! Me and ravage have made it possible to place structures beside other freindly structures, we have but to implement pre-purchasing yet and it is tricky so far but the structure placement was the more daunting task when I first tried to crack the CY code.
I have got a few methods in mind, involving upgrades and commandset updating, but I was wondering if anyone here has an idea how to do it, your name WILL be mentioned if you are successful.
Keep in mind it does not have to be like the old C&C way of pre-purchasing, just as long as you have to spend the time and money on a structure BEFORE placement.
I'll go into detail what I have tried so far later, but for now I would like to hear some ideas.

What you could do is have 2 commandsets. 1 is the prebuilding commandset, which has buttons which purchase sciences (see another recent thread on how to do that, I think its possible). The 2nd commandset is the placement commandset. It would use the actual means of placing all the structures but it would require the prebuilt science for each structure. So all you'd have to do is prebuild it, then switch to the placement commandset and the placement button would be available for the building. The problem is you'd have to find a way to revoke sciences. Depending on how you contruction method works, you could do it with dummy objects as prerequistes instead of sciences and it would be much better. So please, tell us how you did the conyard building so we can work with it better.

Simple
There's a button....
Click the button, an amount is deducted from your account balance
The "research progress" item shows in the queue box
Opon completion, the Construction yard is "upgraded" with a new command set, where the "button" you originally clicked on becomes a "real" building placement command button, and all the others are greyed out
Upon the building being placed, the Con Yard is "upgraded" back to the original command set
Unless this is what you had in mind originally?

The problem is you have a whole mess of commandsets. And what if you prebuild another building before placing it, you'd lose the previous building.

He said, "all others are grayed out"... That means that you can't start construction of another building before you place the ready one...

Oh, so you'd replace them with dummy buttons, well It would still be another commandset for every building for every side.

Think about the way it is done. After you prebuild something, nothing is queued.

Right, so far you guys are kind of hitting the same area I did for that feature, here's what I tried.
Two CommandSets,
One full of upgrades (Could be described as 'build' icons classic C&C wise)
and the other all placement icons
Each upgrade is for a specific building, select the upgrade for PowerPlant and it will enable the PowerPlant to become buildable (It's possible to make an upgrade a prerequisite by creating a fake invisible building/unit) and to upgrade the CY to the placement commandset.
And this is where it gets tricky, my idea was to make those building upgrades player upgrades to that I could grant the downgrade with a newly built building, turns out that you cannot remove a player upgrade anyway so unless you want a player to be able to build unlimited PowerPlants after he only pays for one that idea is kind of useless.
Oh and the reason why Im not revealing the code of placing the buildings yet is that is may need to be modified a bit according to whatever method of pre-purchasing will be picked, but I'll tell you this, it DOES use the place building buttons, as long as the method of pre-purchasing incures the cost and time of a selected building before being able to click on the placement button of that building and then averting back to the upgrade commandset then it's fine.
