Default Reskinning Utility?..

I was wondering if there is any simple reskinning utility for .w3d models like Half-Life Model viewer for HL's .mdl files...
I actually wanted to make a new unit and use an existing model but different skin for it. I searched google for such an utility, but found nothing, and after I got really annoyed, I used possibly the most lame way to accomplish it, I opened .w3d file in a hex editor, sought out the texture name and changed it to the name of the new texture.
It worked, but isn't there a better way to reskin and save a model?..

You mean Re-mapping the faces or repainting the textures?

If you mean repainting the texture, just open the TGA file in PS.

Other than importing the w3d, then reexporting...hex editing is the only other way to do what you are asking.

Waspo, well, I know how to edit a texture, but you see, I want to use a unit with an edited texture as a separate new unit, which won't work, as a .w3d file stores a texture name within, and so it would use the same texture. Too bad there isn't any other way besides hexediting..

erm, just save the model with the new texture under a different name... that's a much easier way to do it

You mean save it in RenX, right?.. Import it to RenX, change the texture, and export it back to .w3d?.. Are you sure it's easier?..

yup, if your skinning with PS that's the way to do it... I don't understand hex editing though... you might have to UVW map it though... depends if you just edited the existing texture or made a completely new one

Hex edit's the easiest, by far, as long as you have a decent hex editor, w3d imports arent always perfect.
