How can TA have a 3D terrain system? I thought it was a 2D game

And whats so revolutionary about its queing system?

And if the game was such a success, how come Cavedog doesn't exist anymore?

1:No, it seems to be 3d.
2:Because it had never been seen before and added a new level of gameplay.
3:Because they decided to have punch and pie and lost all their money  . But seriously, they never made any other good games, it'd be like if Westwood made only the first CNC, they would die out eventually, you know?

TA's terrain system was actually 3d... so are the units... I did TA models for a while... still have the program too... Another good thing about TA... modelling wasn't done in triangles... full square faces... that you could deform to your heart's content...

As for what happened to Cavedog... they got absorbed by this company, who later got absorbed by Atari... and before going they contracted out to another company to make TA2... well, I can always personally hope that they improve on TA with TA2 by allowing some more of the excellent things in other RTS games like Warzone 2100's modular vehicle system... It's a real shame that there aren't more games that allow stackable build orders... yeah you can queue up unit production... *stirs the air with his finger* that's been around for a while now... what I'm talking about is you can take the micromanagement off the game by holding down shift and saying "build this and this and this and this and this and this and when you're done, build a tower here here and here..." You could literally have your commander build a starting base completely hands off...

It was a beautiful piece of work... I just think there are a couple of spots that could have been improved...

1. TA has a top-down view system, but its models are fully 3d and its terrain was the first of its kind (apart from Dark Reign).

2. It was the first to utilise the shift key to such a great extent. YOu could literally set a squad to patrol, move or attack a target before they even got out of the factory.

3. Chris Talyor (the lead designer of TA) left Cavedog to form Gas powered Games. Cavedog also blew a load of money on TA: Kingdoms, which was a huge flop.
